freenet-funk.de or a prepaid card from a Supermarket.
i also recommend freenet funk
Given the short stay, AldiTalk would probably be the most comfortable option as you can get it at Aldi (basically everywhere, just ask the cashier about 'Alditalk Starterkit'). You need to complete their identification process, which is rather easy (app-based, can be done from home).

Lidl-Connect would work the same way, I believe.

I agree with most of the comment writers, Freenet Funk or Aldi Talk should be the best choice in your case.

If you're going to more rural places, I'd rather recommend Vodafone CallYa to you, as there are three celullar networks in Germany: Telekom, Vodafone and O²/Telefonica

Telekom is by far the best of these, but is also the most expensive. Vodafone is cheaper than Telekom, but still relatively expensive (10€/month for 2GB). O² is the biggest network as almost all third party network like Aldi Talk, Freenet Funk, etc. use it.
However, this is the worst network. If you're in large populated cities (like Karlsruhe) this won't be a problem, but if you're heading out to not so densily populated areas, this could be a problem.

So, if you're heading out to such a place, I'd recommend Vodafone CallYa, otherwise just get Aldi Talk or Freenet Funk.

Have a great stay in Germany
AldiTalk or Lidl Mobile. Get yourself into one of these discounters and order a „Starterpaket“ at the Checkout. Next you verify your identity via Video Chat and you are good to go. The nearest ones from the KIT are the ones in the „Theodor-Rehbock“ Street.

Yes, you do. There are basically three ways:

1. Verify yourself in the shop you got the SIM card in. This is only able with some carriers.

2. Verify yourself with WebID. There you need to video chat with people who verify your identity. For this, you need your ID.

3. Freenet Funk: Enter your ID number. That's it.

I don't think that the third one would work for a non German or atleast european ID Card.
