This T-style electric guitar owes its vintage looks to an alder body, which has been fitted with a striking flamed maple top and mounted with a fixed, six-saddle bridge for precise intonation. The modern C-profile neck instantly offers a trusted feel, while the 10.5-inch fretboard radius is a little flatter than usual for eased note bending.

The 1953 with Quad Mod
While the Michael Kelly 1953 is armed with two passive Rockfield TexPlus single-coil pickups for a bright, twangy sound, the best part has got to be the Quad Mod. The Quad Mod refers to the pickup switch selector and as the name suggests, gives you four options instead of the usual three. When switched to the fourth position, the bridge and neck pickup are switched into series, and the result is a fat, punchy sound that immediately reminds you of a humbucker. Basically, the Quad Mod is a highly useful extra tonal option.

Looking at the finish alone, it's clear that Michael Kelly has taken a chunk of inspiration from boutique models when designing the 1955. To start, the swamp ash body has been topped with a stunning slice of quilted maple, and bound with pure flamed maple. Since this is a Micheal Kelly model, a compound fretboard radius offers excellent playability while the tonal range of the mounted Rockfield SWC and Mini pickup is widened by the Great-8 modification. Using this mod, both pickups can be tapped, giving this guitar its staggering 8-way configuration and a sound that ranges from twanging squeaky-cleans to thick, fat chugs, all with minimal effort.

In the Hybrid Special, Michael Kelly has actually managed to make a model that lies somewhere between a semi-acoustic and an electro-acoustic guitar. The thinline body sits under a stunning slice of spalted maple that gives shape to the naturally airy character of sound while both a piëzo pickup and two magnetic humbuckers are fitted to capture every dimension of the tone this hollowbody is able to produce. More standard-issue is the provided three-way pickup selector switch and blend-pot combo, so that the perfect balance can be struck between the three pickups and, while the blended sound can be outputted as normal, a stereo-jack, Y-style cable can also be used to split the piëzo and humbucker signals and send them to separate amplifiers.

It's obvious that the Michael Kelly Forte Exotic does something entirely different. The innovative construction of this electro-acoustic comes with unique Port Technology where a specially developed bracing structure has been combined with an offset sound hole that's been unusually carved into the left shoulder, leaving more wood free across the top of the body; more space for it to resonate; and a more lively resulting tone. A fitted Fishman Presys preamp and Sonicore element form the electronics section and offer a built-in tuner as well as natural amplification of the acoustic sound. This version of the Forte has been shaped with a Javanese ebony top that's been finished in an ultra-thin satin-gloss.

The Patriot Instinct: Obliterates Every Mark
The Michael Kelly Patriot Instinct has been mounted with a pair of Rockfield SWC humbuckers that combine to deliver a predictably (but no less satisfying) thick, fat tone. Throw the Great-8 Mod into the mix and this gets blown wide open. By simply popping out the push-pull volume pot, both the neck and bridge pickups are tapped, offering a total of eight foundation tone profiles that can be switched up at will. As such, the Patriot is no one-trick-pony but a potential genre-hopping swiss-army knife of a guitar.
