Conversations works with every XMPP server out there. However XMPP is an extensible protocol. These extensions are standardized as well in so called XEP’s. Conversations supports a couple of those to make the overall user experience better. There is a chance that your current XMPP server does not support these extensions. Therefore to get the most out of Conversations you should consider either switching to an
XMPP server that does or - even better - run your own XMPP server for you and your friends.

Trotzdem hot.
Könnte man da auch auf nem Pi auch eigenen kleinen Server auf der Basis aufsetzen, kostenfrei das ganze. Und ohne viel Gefrickel. Weiss das jemand?
Anstatt 3,49€ > Freebie > Hot.
Ein Bekannter macht es (betreibt einen eigenen Server für Familie und Freunde), allerdings nicht auf Pi. Ich denke, es wäre besser einen (gebrauchten) Mini-PC (ThinkCentre o. ä.) zu nehmen, sind oft für 80-100 Euro zu haben.
Las das gestern bereits bei einem Used Mini PC Deal. Läge genau in der von Dir genannten Range und brächte im Vergleich zum Pi ca. 3fache CPU Leistung mit und auch die Erweiterung / Austauschbarkeit spräche für sich. Danke für die mögliche Alternative.
Geht auch mit Nextcloud.
Da hast dann noch mehr Funktionen.
Und How-To‘s für Nextcloud gibts wie Sand am Meer.
Auf jeden Fall gibt es von mir immer ein Autohot bei solchen Deals. Gerne mehr davon

Dachte F Droid wäre immer alles und dauerhaft kostenlos. Wenn gleiche Version dürfte es auch keinen Unterschied geben, iwie logisch oder? Kann aber auch Holz unterwegs sein, Plankenwandeln und so™.

Nextcloud ist Open-Source und ist via F-Droid kostenlos.
Ich meinen Augen liegst du richtig. Apps sind eigentlich immer identisch und kostenfrei (wobei sich die Entwickler sicher über einen angemessenen Beitrag freuen, der landet dann wenigstens zu 100% bei ihnen)
Das Problem ist ja eher,dass der Pi dafür im Internet hängen muss und nicht nur im LAN. Das macht die Sicherheitsanforderungen so komplex, dass mir das zu viel wäre.

Also die Alternative von hier, ohne eigenen Betrieb oder ganz simpel via Pi und dann über andere gesicherte Wege realisieren. Das mit der Castlesecurity ist mir selbst bewusst und auch der gewichtigste Punkt bei dem ganzen. Gute Sensibilisierung!

Falsch: Das geht nur über Telegram. Und Bargeld und Kryptos sind nur dazu da um anonym Drogen zu kaufen und wer Emails verschlüsselt steht mit einem Bein sowieso schon im Knast ...
Gibt keine Vorteile ggü Matrix Server/Element Client
es muss lediglich der eine Port frei erreichbar sein. Da kann man nichts absichern. Nicht als root laufen lassen. Automatisch Sicherheitsupdates einspielen.
Die Version im play store unterstützt Pushnachrichten, die freie Version nicht.
Ach deswegen ist unser it support so schlecht zu erreichen, die sitzen alle ein und haben eingeschränkte PC Zeit
Geht's hier nicht um einen XMPP-Server? Dann müssen doch mehrere Ports geöffnet werden. Besonders dann, wenn alle Erweiterungen (vgl. compliance.conversations.im ) unterstützt werden sollen.
Zum Server: Ich nutze Prosody auf einem CPX11 bei Hetzner. Diesen empfinde ich als einfacher einzurichten als Ejabberd. Das Schöne an dem letzten Update ist, dass selbst Community-Module jetzt über prosodyctl installiert und aktualisiert werden können, so dass hg wegfällt.
Dennoch würde ich eher Ejabberd empfehlen, falls er auf dem Betriebssystem unterstützt wird, weil für diesen weniger externe Tools installiert und konfiguiert werden müssen.
Dennoch muss der Server gewartet und aktualisiert werden, weshalb Laien in meinen Augen lieber einen der öffentlichen Server nutzen und nur auf die Omemo-Verschlüsselung achten sollten. Bedenkt, ihr haftet für den Server!

Der Teil mit dem identisch stimmt nicht. Teilweise fehlen Funktionen die zB auf nichtfreie Frameworks wie Google Location Services aufsetzen.
Ist das ein Joke?
Optisch noch in der ICS Ära und auch sonst sieht das Projekt nicht sehr lebendig aus (letztes Update 2020).
Auf der Weihnachtsfeier hat mir ein Arbeitskollege erzählt, das er sich ein CustomRom auf`s handy gezogen hat. Den haben wir seit dem Abend nicht mehr gesehen
@Elija123 würde nun sagen, ein wahrer Mydealzer hat ja auch immer mindest eines herumliegen für solche (Aus)Fälle. Aber auch andere Formen eines wahren Mydealzer können dem beipflichten. Ein wahrer MyDealzer hat ein iPhone, da Bastelbuden ihn zeitlich aufhalten und damit am maximalen Abgreifen hindern.
Ein wahrer MyDealzer hat ein Android Phone, welches auch ohne Custom Rom genau so gut nutzbar ist und zusätzlich sind die Gräte und Apps günstiger und die Webseiten bieten einem günstigere Preise an.
Der wesentliche Unterschied ist, dass die Benachrichtigungen bei der Google-Version über Google laufen (GCM oder wie das jetzt heißt), bei der F-Droid-Version über einen eigenen Handle.
Ein wahrer Mydealzer hat eine MuMu, da er einmal sich eingerichtet auf dieser auch Äpfel, Birnen und andere schöne Dinge abgreifen kann.
Oh, ich vergaß der MuMu auch eine Version zu geben. Eine 9. Bestes Handy am Markt, an einem alten Markt, der mittlerweile von dem Hersteller nicht mehr klassisch sondern westlich geprägt nur noch beliefert wird. Meine MuMu und ich sind somit Jünger der alten Schule und so™
