Nikon Z8 - E-infinity - Buying a camera on the grey market.

Hello community,

I'm reaching out to you regarding my project to buy a Nikon Z8.

I'm a starting freelance photographer with some exciting wedding this year.

I'd like to upgrade my almost 5-year-old Z6, but I'm a bit limited on budget, and the grey market is tempting.

The Z8 is listed at €3350 on the grey market, while it's €4599 on the French market.

Also, there are significant promotions currently on the US market. The Z8 is priced at just $3500.

Despite the imminent release of the Nikon Z6 III, I'm convinced it won't be able to compete with a Z8 at €3350.

Note that I've already bought lenses on the grey market, so I'm aware of the risks associated with it.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you're in a bit of a conundrum with your decision to upgrade to the Nikon Z8. Let's break down your options:

Grey Market Option (€3350): This is the most affordable option but comes with risks such as limited or no warranty coverage and potential issues with customer support. However, since you've already bought lenses on the grey market, you're likely familiar with these risks and willing to take them.

French Market Option (€4599): This option offers the security of buying from an authorized dealer in your country, which usually includes warranty coverage and better customer support. However, it comes at a higher price compared to the grey market.

US Market Option ($3500): This is the most tempting option due to the significant discount, but it comes with its own set of challenges. Importing the camera from the US might incur additional costs such as customs duties and taxes, and you might face compatibility issues with warranties and customer support being based in the US.

Considering your budget constraints and the potential savings, the grey market option seems like a viable choice for you. Since you're already familiar with the risks associated with it, you can make an informed decision based on your experience. However, make sure to carefully weigh the pros and cons of each option before making your final decision.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration regarding my situation. Indeed, the grey market appears to be the most favorable solution, and I appreciate your analysis. I will take some more time to reflect. Thank you once again for your time. 🙏

Based on your advice, I will buy my Nikon Z8 in Europe with a VAT-paid invoice.
Today, I came across several interesting offers from Amazon.fr and Foto-Erhardt.fr.
The Z8 is priced at €4099 with VAT. What do you think? It's still better than €4599 at Nikon.fr.
To be honest, I'm not sure what to expect in terms of prices compared to promotions in the USA.
In the USA, the Z8 is listed at $3500 instead of $3999.
So, the price of €4099 seems interesting to me. Right?
